Taveuni Island

Taveuni is the third-largest island in Fiji. It has an area of 435 square kilometers. Being a top of an elongated shield volcano, Taveuni has 150 volcanic cones and the Fiji's second highest peak at 1,241 meters. It is located 6.5 kilometres to the east of Vanua Levu. Taveuni has abundant of native plants and wildlife and is known as the "Garden Island of Fiji."

Being surrounded by tropical reefs, the island is one of the world's best dive sites. Tavenui has some resorts, and while backpacker options are limited, there are both campsites and cottages/holiday homes available for the cost-conscious traveller.

There are a huge range of activities to choose from. If you want to enjoy the nature, you should go to Vatuwiri Plantation, which is just one hour's drive from the Taveuni airport. It is an eco activity wonderland, where you can have the horse treks through the spectacular landscape, hikes to the top of a dormant volcano, or a visit to a 200 year old fortified village.
