La Concha Beach

La Concha Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Europe. It embraces almost the entire city of San Sebastian. Being a jewel of Basque Country, La Concha features golden sand, warm climate and crystal clear water. The beach is called "La Concha" which means "Shell" because of its shape.

La Concha has all the necessary services and infrastructure. For the children, there have been set nice aquatic attractions in the sea. Every year La Concha hosts the best known and most popular competition of the Regata de La Concha. This show could be interesting for everybody. Moreover, the first natural science museum in Spain- the famous Aquarium- is situated in a few hundred meters from La Concha.

As in the Basque country it rains a lot year round, the best period to come there is from July till October. But, if you decide to visit the beach off-season, don't worry - you will find many things to do. Thus, a typical activity that all locals practice during the year is to walk from the centre of San Sebastian to Ondaretta along the beach. In spring and summer many people prefer to put their feet in the soft sand and chatting to each other.

There are a lot of places where you can enjoy delicious Basque cuisine on the beach. "Cafe de la Concha" is one of those. Don't forget to try the house specialty - pinchos (small snacks usually with fish, cheese or seafood) with txakoli (local dry white wine).
