Ambergris Caye

Ambergris Caye is known to be the biggest island amongst the other 200 islands located in Belize. It is located one mile away from the Belize Barrier Reef. It is now considered a World Heritage site. Therefore, people are not allowed to alter this marvelous place. Ambergris Caye is estimated to be 25 miles in length and 1 mile in width. The island is sectioned into three major areas: lagoons, mangrove swamps, and sand. Maya people were the first to inhabit in this island, but Europeans came about 500 years ago and made significant changes to place. Today, the population is composed of people with a diverse heritage including European pirates, native Maya, and Mexican refugees.

The island contains multiple restaurants and bars, crystal clear waters, and a wonderful beach. These places would allow visitors to relax and enjoy their stay in the island. People may also go the Belize Barrier Reef to dive and snorkel. Cave tubing is a well-known activity in Ambergris Caye. People would just have to go to different caves and climb into several tubes and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the area. Some of the caves are sacred to the Maya people. These caves are normally situated in water. Visitors may also choose to go on a river tour. This will take them to ancient sites of the area and they will also be able to see the different exotic creatures living in the place. Aside from doing tireless activities, people may also choose to lie down on the beach and enjoy the heat of the sun.
